Why do I not see the new graphical FDE login screen?

Authors list

Problem

Instead of seeing the new graphical pre-boot Full Disk Encryption (FDE) login screen like this:

UEFI FDE login screen

You see the original 'text mode' pre-boot FDE login screen like this:

MBR FDE login screen

Cause

The graphical pre-boot FDE login screen is only available on UEFI systems on version 4.9.0 or later of DESlock+. This means that Legacy/MBR systems are not supported.

To find out whether your machine is UEFI or Legacy, please follow one of the methods below:

Method 1:

If the version number displayed in the top right-hand corner of the pre-boot FDE login screen does not show the letters 'US' or 'UM' at the end of the number, then your machine is Legacy/MBR and is not supported.

Method 2:

Step 1:

From within Windows, press Win+R (or search Run in the Windows Start Menu) to open the Run dialog.

Step 2:

Type msinfo32 and click OK.

Step 3:

In the System Summary, look at the BIOS Mode. This will either show UEFI or Legacy.

Please note: this information is only displayed on Windows 8 or later.
