What are the removable media encryption modes - (file / full disk)?

Lijst van auteurs

Removable media encryption has two different methods either Full Disk or File which have the following features:

  • Full disk - Encrypts every sector on the removable device and thus any data stored on it. This type of encryption can only be used on machines with DESlock+ installed and a copy of the correct encryption key available.
  • File - Creates an encrypted folder on the device for storing files and folders within. This type of encryption can be used on machines with DESlock+ installed and the correct encryption key available.  Optionally if enabled the encrypted folder can be accessed on machines that do not have DESlock+ installed via the DESlock+ Go utility using a password.  The file method stores the encrypted data in a separate encrypted folder allowing the device to contain both plain and encrypted data alongside one another.  Please see here for more details: http://www.deslock.com/deslock+_go.php

Note: If your workstation is managed by an Enterprise Server, the availability and behaviour of the two different types of encryption to the user is controlled in the Workstation Policy options set on your Enterprise Server, please see here for more details: KB188 - How DESlock+ Removable Media Encryption (RME) policies work
