Deploy the ERA Agent and ESET endpoint product to client workstations at the same time (6.4) - Kennisbank / ESET Security Management Center / Legacy ESET Remote Administrator (6.x / 5.x / 4.x) / 6.x - ESET Tech Center

Deploy the ERA Agent and ESET endpoint product to client workstations at the same time (6.4)

Issue

  • ESET Remote Administrator version 6.4.x and later allows you to create and install the ERA Agent and ESET endpoint product (Windows only) together

  • The All-in-one installer now contains the ERA Agent, ESET product, License, and Policy in a pre-configured .exe installer package

This method is for local installations and an Admin should run it for the following reasons:

  • It requires user interaction on the client workstation
  • It requires a domain admin account (not a regular user account)
  • It is possible to extract the Certificate passphrase on the client workstation because it is embedded in the .exe file

The ERA Agent can also be installed using Live Installer, deployed remotely or installed manually (a local installation of the ERA Agent only). See the following ESET Knowledgebase article for further deployment options:

Solution

Create an all-in-one installation package in ERA Web Console

Follow the instructions below using ESET Remote Administrator (ERA) version 6.4.29 and later to create an ERA Agent All-in-one installer to deploy and install an ERA Agent and ESET Windows endpoint product (along with applicable Policy, License, and pre-configured ERA Server Hostname and Port to communicate with ERA) to client workstations.

Silent installation

If you want to arrange for installation to run on client computers without displaying a dialog, see the  section below.

  1. In the Quick Links section, click Deploy ERA Agent.

  1. In the section Local Deployment → Create all-in-one installer (Windows only), click Create Installer.

  1. In the Create installer package - Certificate screen, the Certificate and Certification Authority are chosen automatically based on the available certificates, or you can choose a custom one.

Type in your Certificate Passphrase if you specified a passphrase during the installation of your ERA.

  1. Expand Configuration and click the list of products next to Package to Install to choose an ESET endpoint product (only Windows products are available for the installer package).

Only ESET endpoint products version 6.4 and later will allow automatic product activation

If you choose version 6.3 or older products, automatic product activation will not work and you will have to activate the product later. ESET products version 6.4 and later will be automatically activated during the installation.

License, Server Hostname and Port are automatically selected for you.

  1. Click Create Package and then click the download for 32-bit or 64-bit depending on your system.

Install package download fails

In some versions of ESET Remote Administrator, download of the installation package will fail with no error message. To resolve this issue, run a component upgrade task and replace the repository .dll with our updated version.

  1. Run the All-in-one installation package (for example, ERA_Installer_x64_en_US.exe) file on a client computer to start the setup wizard using a domain Administrator account.

For illustrated instructions for the setup wizard, see the All-in-one Agent setup wizard Online Help topic.

Silent installation of all-in-one installation package

You can install all-in-one installation package generated from ERA Web Console on the client device in the silent mode. Make sure the following requirements are met before using this method:

  • The installation package must be stored locally on the designated device
  • Silent installation can only be performed on an account with administrator privileges
  • We recommend that you use the administrative command line
  • .exe type installers must be used

If all of the above requirements are met, follow the steps below to perform a silent install:

  1. Navigate in the command line to the installation package location.

  2. Execute the installation package with the --silent parameter (for example, C:\Users\Admin\Downloads>ERA_Installer_x64_en_US.exe --silent ).

You can also add --avr-disable to disable the ESET AV Remover. (for example, C:\Users\Admin\Downloads>ERA_Installer_x64_en_US.exe --silent --avr-disable).

ERA version 6.5 users

If you are deploying from ERA version 6.5, the following parameters are required. However, the "silent" parameter is currently not functional in version 6.5 and the UI window or progress bar will still display during the installation. This will be resolved soon and updated in ERA via the repository.

ERA_Installer_x64_en_US.exe --silent --accepteula
ERA_Installer_x64_en_US.exe --silent --accepteula --avr-disable

  1. Installation will now proceed in silent mode (no window or progress bar will appear during the installation).

  2. The package will be installed with default settings.

Settings for silent installation

By default, when performing a silent installation the following settings will be used:

  • The EULA is accepted
  • ESET LiveGrid is enabled
  • Detection of potentially unwanted applications is disabled.

These default settings can be changed after the installation is completed. They can also be modified in your installation package during Configuration. In the Configuration type field you can Select configuration from the list of policies. Select a policy for ERA Agent and a policy for your ESET security product (you can not create a new policy at this point).
