Solution

I. Disable Background Scanning in ESET Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Server

  1. Open ESET Mail Security by clicking Start  All Programs  ESET → ESET Mail Security → ESET Mail Security.
     
  2. Press F5 to enter Advanced setup.
     
  3. Expand Server protection → Microsoft Exchange Server  Antivirus and antispyware  Microsoft Exchange Server → VSAPI X.X.
     
  4. Deselect the check box next to Background scanning and click OK. Email delivery speed should return to normal shortly. Continue on to part II unless email delivery speed remains slow, in which case you may need to contact your Internet service provider.

II. Create a new scheduled task to perform background scanning during non-work hours

  1. Click Tools and then click Scheduler.

  1. Click Add.

  1. Select Run mail server background scan from the Scheduled task drop-down menu and click Next.

  1. Name the task (for example, "Background Scanning"), and then select how often to run the task (either Daily or Weekly is recommended) and click Next.

  1. Set a time for the background scan to start running (an off-hour time when server usage is low is recommended). If a weekly task was chosen, select the days to run the scan and click Next.

  1. Select Wait until the next scheduled time and click Next.

  1. Click Finish and set the length of time to perform background scanning so that daily usage is not interrupted, and then click OK. Your new background scan will run at the next set time.
