  • What's new in ESET Mail Security 6 for Microsoft Exchange

ESET Mail Security 6 for Microsoft Exchange (EMSX) was released in North America September 3, 2015, and is the successor to earlier versions of EMSX.

What follows is a list of new and updated features.

Manage EMSX 6 using ESET Remote Administrator

It is now possible to manage EMSX 6 using ESET Remote Administrator 6. If you plan to use these two products together, we recommend upgrading each to the latest version. For more information on upgrading, see the following Knowledgebase articles:

Scan specific mailboxes using Database Scan

You now have the ability to restrict scanning operations to certain mailboxes or databases, which minimizes server resource utilization and delivers faster scan results. To scan a specific mailbox, open EMSX and click Scan→ Database Scan.

Only available on Microsoft Exchange 2007 and later

The ability to scan specific mailboxes using Database Scan will only be available in the Graphical User Interface (GUI) of EMSX 6 when the product is installed on Microsoft Exchange 2007 or later.

Dedicated Quarantine management interface

ESET Mail Security 6 for Microsoft Exchange includes a dedicated web interface (similar to ESET License Administrator and the new ESET Remote Administrator Web Console) for managing the Quarantine. This local Quarantine management interface allows users to review blocked messages, inspect individual emails, and, in the case of Administrators, inspect objects and decide to delete or release quarantined messages. To enable and access the Quarantine web interface for your server, follow the steps below:

Assigned per server

A Quarantine web interface is assigned per server with EMSX installed, not per user.

  1. Open ESET Mail Security 6 for Microsoft Exchange.
  2. Press the F5 key on your keyboard to access Advanced setup.
  3. Click Server → Mail quarantine.
  4. Expand Web Interface, click the slider bar next to Enable web interface and then click OK

Message processing rules

You can create separate, automated mail flows depending on conditions set for each message (custom rules assigned per user based on role, mail attachment type, etc.).

Performance and detection improvements

The following features were added to  EMSX 6:

  • ESET LiveGrid
  • Support for ESET Shared Local Cache
  • Advanced Memory Scanner, Exploit Blocker, and Anti-Phishing
  • Device Control
  • Idle-state scanning and optional first scan

Hyper-V Storage Scan

This feature scans Microsoft Windows servers that have Hyper-V roles enabled, including the ability to scan virtual machines while they are turned off. While this feature is available in EMSX 6, it is intended for use with ESET File Security for Microsoft Windows Server (EFSW), as running a Hyper-V role next to an Exchange server on the same machine is not recommended.
