How do I determine the number of IBM Domino enabled mailboxes I need licenses for?

To determine how many IBM Domino enabled mailboxes you have, use the EMSL Mailbox Count tool. The server where the mailboxes are counted does not have to be online in order for this tool to work.

In a partitioned environment, the tool needs to be run separately on each partition - either with the /path parameter or directly from the data folder. For example VerifyMailboxCount_64 /path “c:\Program Files\Domino\Data1”.

The version of the EMSL mailbox count tool depends on the EMSL installed, not on the version of the operating system. For example, for a 32-bit installation of EMSL on a 64-bit operating system, download the 32-bit version of the EMSL Mailbox Count tool.

Download the EMSL Mailbox Count tool and run it through the command line with one of the following parameters:

  • /path - Displays the path to the data server, needs to be entered only on partitioned servers – it is recognized automatically on single servers.
  • /names - Displays the names of the mailboxes.
  • /details - Displays detailed description of each mailbox.
  • /help - Displays the help for this tool.

What happens if the number of mailboxes on my mail server exceeds my license count?

If the number of mailboxes on your mail server exceeds your license count, a message will be entered into your IBM Domino Server log reading, "Protection status changed due to exceeded number of mailboxes (count) covered by your license (count)." The Protection status of your ESET Mail Security for IBM Domino Server product will display as ORANGE. You will receive a notification that you have 42 days before your protection is disabled. If you receive the notification shown below, please contact your sales representative to purchase additional licenses.

If after 42 days additional licenses have not been entered to cover the unprotected mailboxes, your Protection status will change to RED. You will receive a notification that your protection has been disabled. If you receive the notification shown below, immediately contact your sales representative to purchase additional licenses.
