How do I open or close (allow or deny) a specific port on the Personal firewall in ESET Endpoint Security?

Issue

  • Use the ESET Personal firewall to allow or deny certain connections based on port number or range of port numbers

Solution

If you do not use ESET Remote Administrator to manage your network

Perform these steps on individual client workstations.

In ESET Remote Administrator

  1. Open the ESET Remote Administrator Console (ERAC) by clicking Start → All Programs → ESET → ESET Remote Administrator Console → ESET Remote Administrator Console, or by double-clicking the ERAC icon on your desktop. 
     
  2. Click Tools → Policy Manager.
     
  3. Select the policy for clients on which you want to edit port settings and click Edit Policy.

  1.  Expand Windows desktop v5 → Personal firewall Settings  Rule setup and click Edit.

  1. Click New.

  1. Type a name for the rule into the Name field, select Both from the Direction drop-down menu and then select Allow or Deny from the Action drop-down menu, depending on whether or not you want to block or allow this specific port and (optionally) select the firewall profile under which you want this rule to apply.

  1. Click the Local tab Add port and type the number of the port into the Number field in the Port selectionwindow. The name of the port will auto-populate in most cases. When you are finished, click OK.

  1. Click OK and OK again to save your changes.
     
  2. Click Console and then click Yes.

 

On individual client workstations

  1. Open ESET Smart Security. How do I open my ESET product?  
     
  2. Click Setup → Network.

  1. Click Configure rules and zones

  1. Click Toggle detailed view of all rules.

  1. Click New to add a new rule.

  1. Type a name for the rule into the Name field, select Both from the Direction drop-down menu and then select Allow or Deny from the Action drop-down menu, depending on whether or not you want to block or allow this specific port.

  1. Click the Local tab  Add port and then type the number of the port into the Number field in the Port selection window. Use Add port range... to apply your new rule to a range of ports. The name of the port will auto-populate in most cases. When you are finished, click OK.

  1. Click OK and OK again to save your changes.
