Set a password for endpoints (client workstations) to access the ESET Remote Administrator Server (5.x)

Issue

A new version has been released

Version 6 of ESET Remote Administrator (ERA) and ESET business products were released in North America December 11th, 2014, and globally February 25th, 2015. This article applies to version 5.x and earlier ESET business products. For information about what's new in the latest version and how to upgrade, see the following article:

 

Solution

I. Define the ESET Remote Administrator (ERA) Server password

  1. Open ESET Remote Administrator Console by clicking Start  All Programs  ESET  ESET Remote Administrator Console → ESET Remote Administrator Console.
     
  2. Click Tools  Policy Manager.
     
  3. Select the policy that you want to modify (this is likely your default policy for clients) and click Edit.
     
  4. Expand Windows desktop v5 (or the appropriate version for your client workstations) → Kernel  Settings Remote administration → Primary server password.
     
  5. Click Set Password, type your new password into both fields and then click OK.

  1. Click Console to save your changes.
  1. Click Tools → Server Options.
     
  2. Click the Security tab and then click Change next to Password for Clients (ESET Security Products).

  1. Type your existing password (if you use one) into the Old Password field. If you do not currently use a password for clients to check in, leave this field blank. Type your new password into New password and Confirm new password fields and then click OK.

  1. Click OK in the Password changed window.
     
  2. Select the check box next to Enable unathenticated access for Clients (ESET Security Products). Return to this setting once all client workstations have checked in and disable it.
     
  3. Click OK to close Server Options and save your changes. Continue to part II.

Deselect "Enable unathenticated access for for Clients" once all client workstations have checked in

This option will allow clients that have not yet received your new password to check in during the transitional period, however leaving it enabled can pose a security risk. Once all clients have checked in successfully, we recommend that you disable this feature.

II. Define the HTTP Mirror Server password

  1. In the ESET Remote Administrator Console (ERAC), click Tools → Server options  Advanced  Edit Advanced Settings.
     
  2. Expand Remote Administrator  ERA Server  Settings  Mirror.
     
  3. Click Username and type the username to log into your HTTP mirror server into the Value field.
     
  4. Click Password and then click Set Password. Type the password to log into your HTTP mirror server into both fields and then click OK.

  1. Expand Windows desktop v5 (or the equivelant for the software version installed on your client workstations)  Update → Profile →  Settings.
     
  2. Click Update server, select Custom update server from the drop-down menu and then type the IP address of your HTTP mirror server into the Value field.

  1. Click Username and type the username to log into your HTTP mirror server into the Value field.
     
  2. Click Password and then click Set Password. Type the password to log into your HTTP mirror server into both fields and then click OK.

  1. Click Console to save your new settings. Client workstations will receive the new settings the next time that they check in to ESET Remote Administrator.
     
  2. Once all client workstations are able to check in, return to part I step 11 and deselect the check box next to Enable unathenticated access for Clients (ESET Security Products).
